Close By

A month has passed and I have been the usual busy.  I took my MCAT September 11 & the time leading up to that I was busy studying..  That weekend I went the Gauley River, camping & whitewater rafting, and then camping again to run a very special race with a great group of people.  It was my first time in Helvetia, and I had the opportunity to camp out the night before and get to know some of the runners that I see in passing when running different events in my state.  Helvetia 10K Mountain Run is a must-do - I intend on coming back every year with tent & food & goodies in tow.  The town of Helvetia is quaint little Swiss settled town that even if you can't make it for this race, a visit is required ~ but I recommend camping and running the 10K.  While I missed the festival, the 10K Mountain Run takes place in conjunction with the Community Helvetia Fair.  Next year, I will bring money to purchase a wool blanket sold exclusively in the Post Office - which is located inside the Kulture Haus Helvetia.

So since my last post I logged about 10 runs in the month of September... not so good when you are training for a 50 miler.  Although I accidentally got ahead of myself in the training and put in a strong 30  mile run early on in training and so I do not feel bad about the missed runs in September.  I had time off while studying for the MCAT and then the subsequent trip to New River to raft the Gauley and then I ran the Helvetia 10K which took place on September 15 (not logged on any GPS devices.)  The following week, I put in runs on Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun (taking a Wed off but replacing it on Friday.)  Then, on Tuesday, September 24th, I put in 9 miles on the Hatfield & McCoy trails located behind my house and left that night for NYC.  I stopped off in St. Albans to pick my friend up that evening and we hit the road, driving all night, to NYC, arriving around 11:30 the next morning.  By the time I found parking and got my dog reaquainted with his buddy, Sam, in NYC.  I changed clothes and hit Central Park for a nice run - 5 miles, my usual Wednesday run.  I have to say after running trails here in WV, the CP run was quite boring and so on the way back, I hit the streets of New York and had much more fun bobbing and weaving through the streets - it was the closest thing to trail running you can get there.  It was fun and I was impressed with my pace (8:16) given the fact I had been up for 30+ hours - I was running on adrenaline and caffeine.  I didn't get any running in for the rest of my trip while I continued the caffeine trend just to make it all the activity planned.

On the way home, my car breaks down in Maryland - 20 minutes away from my best friend's aunt & uncle's house.  Getting straight to the point.. it was no accident my car stopped there. Her cousins had been in a terrible car accident and I am certain G-d had planned this otherwise unexpected stop so that her company could brighten up the spirits of the little ones and injured.  Selena has a way of bringing a smile to everyone's face.  She spent the entire week following my mother's death with me and my family, never leaving our side.  She brought a smile to our faces and laughter to our home during a time when it was needed.

We spent two nights in Maryland while trying to figure out what to do about my car before renting a car and heading home.  Selena put the car rental in her name.  The entire trip she had not been feeling well and her discomfort had worsened daily even though she had been taking prescription antibiotics that were prescribed to her for when she has this type of problem.  And so, after seeing how much pain she was in, I urged her to stop by her hospital in Morgantown since we would be passing right through.  You see, Selena has beat death a few times in her life.  And, I didn't want her to have to face that again.  So, we stopped at Ruby Memorial on our way home.  I spent the night with her in the ER until I knew that they were going to admit her.  Well - I stayed on after that, but it was then I knew I needed to call my father to drive up to pick me up  so I could get back to the office and school.  By this time, I was way behind on work that needed to be done and had missed 3 Organic Chemistry lectures.  My father arrives around lunch time & I had to say my good-byes to Selena & head home.  On the trip home, my father tells me that the trip out of the house had him feeling 10 years younger.  Well - again, I was able to see G-d working in my father's life this time through what appeared to be yet another disaster in my path.  You see, my father has been having a very difficult time with the loss of my mother & has not been getting out and about as he should.  He agreed with me when I told him that G-d wanted him to get outdoors & see what He has created for us and to enjoy the beauty around him of the beginning of the fall color changes.

The reason I tell this long story leads up to some happenings on my runs this past weekend.  Even though I had been through what my sister called the "female version of The H@ngover" G-d allowed me to be in a place where I could see him working through difficult circumstances.  And, so I came home in a very grateful mindset, thankful for not only the blessings in my life, but more so for being able to see the good He was working through my series of disasters - mindful of HIS presence in my life.

I am almost always in a prayerful state on my runs...or try to maintain one, especially during my trail runs that I do alone.  I see it as an opportunity to speak to G-d and meditate on the energy I want to create within my world.  I focus on the blessings I have in my life & ask for guidance and discernment while sending positive healing energy to people I have come in contact with whether family, friend, acquaintance or stranger.  I do not attend a church, temple or synagogue - but rather call nature my church for this is when I feel closest to G-d.  When I was going through a very difficult time in my life I used to look at the clock and began being drawn to the time 1:11 or 11:11.  I do not think I am special nor am I superstitious; however, it is something that I began to associate with hope.  I mention this because while on my run Saturday, I am feeling great.  My body is recovering from the stress I exposed it to while traveling and eating a horrible diet - and I feel the cleansing of the run & my energy begins to switch from sluggish to peppy.  And then, out of no where, in my path is a bobcat.  I was in awe and if you ask around it is very rare to run into one in nature.  At that moment, something told me to look at my watch - it read 11:11.  My spirits were completely uplifted and I saw this as a message from G-d, telling me HE was with me at that moment.  I was thankful and felt very blessed.

The next day my training run was in Chief Logan State Park.  My body was tired from the 20 miles put in on the Hatfield & McCoy trails on Saturday, but I again began my run in a prayerful mode, thanking G-d for my blessings and remembering the bobcat from the day before.  I thanked Him for the reminder that He was with me and continued on my run in this prayerful state.  Along the path I came across a bird that let me run right up on it before it took off, and when it took off, it flew low to the ground and along the path, almost as if it was guiding me.  It took my breath away it was so beautiful and again I thanked G-d for putting this bird in my path & at the same time remembering how I found peace and truth through birds during the same period of my life in which 11:11 brought me hope (this was years ago and I rarely even think about it anymore - which is why, too, I think I was reminded of it - to remember what He has brought me through, the strength gained, as well as the spiritual growth spawned from it.)  I then rounded the bend in the path the bird had led and was jogging when I came upon the same bird which let me run right up on it again before taking off once more in the same manner, flying low and leading the way.  This time I lost my breath at the beauty and immediately thought to myself, "LOOK AT YOUR WATCH!"  This time, my watch read that I had been running 1 hour 11 minutes and 50 seconds... which tells me if I had looked at my watch the first time the bird led the path, it would have read 1 hour 11 minutes and 11 seconds.  I immediately felt closer to G-d than I ever had.  I knew He was with me right there.  I saw how He had answered many prayers and some being answered on my recent road trip.  I had prayed for understanding of when He was working through me or when He was using me as a conduit for His work.  He had answered that prayer when everything seemed to be falling apart and everyone felt sorry for me, I could see the good in what He was doing.  I also saw it as a message that He is always with me and that He will guide me through any and all situations in which He leads me to.  A peace washed over me like never before and I immediately began praying for healing to come over all the people in my life who are dealing with different traumas.

I felt it necessary to share this story because people need to be reminded to not just pray, but have faith in the process and the situations G-d brings into our lives.  We must trust that there is a good in all things even when we can not see it ourselves.  G-d doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we think He will and it may take a very long time for them to be answered, but He is there none the less, and wants to hear from us.  In His time, things will make sense.  When we stop trying to figure things out with our brains and listen with our hearts, He will begin to speak.  We have to tune in.  And the best way to do this is through quiet time.

And, now - I am under an incredible amount of pressure to get things done.  I have made some commitments to myself and to my work.  I have many challenges ahead of me and a ton of work to do and have spread myself very thin.  However, I am reminded that I am capable because He is there with me.  I have many projects that I am working on all while applying to attend medical school.  I am blessed to be in the position I am and am grateful for the opportunity to be able to help myself while helping others around me.  I am blessed.

With that, here are my runs since my last post - I would like to say at this time too, that after my 50+ miler, I will begin training for triathlons!  and, so I have been spending more time in the water and will be swimming on my Friday & Monday run day's off.  This morning I spent 50 minutes on the stationary bike and 50 minutes swimming laps and doing lap drills.  I will most likely also be doing more of my weekday runs on the treadmill as my schedule is running tighter and tighter as I am working on so many things at the same time.  last night, I had to put my 9 miles in by getting 3 in on the treadmill before I taught swim lessons and the other 6 in same place AFTER swim lessons.

Here are my runs since last post:

.

Looking back this was not a bad pace at all considering it was pissing down rain the entire time

Same workout logged on MapMyRun

this was supposed to be a fivehour training run, but something told me to go home and check on my dad and dog and cut the run short.  I was tired but my legs felt strong.  Plus I had so much time off beforehand I didn't want to sprain anything and risk injury.  the minute I felt like I should come off the mountain and cut it short, I looked at my watch, it was 1:11 and so I listened - lol, probably a subconscious thing by this time, but I acted maybe on superstition this time ;-)

Took Smith on this run :D

Happy Labor Day

Has it been 3 weeks since my last post?  Fall is practically here bringing MMTR even closer.  It is exactly 2 months away from today.  Time to get a boogie on the training schedule. I left you with a tentative outline to how training would go.  I got some decent mileage and two amazing track workouts in that week.  I have to say getting on the track has been intimidating and difficult, but in that week I started to find my stride and breathing and with each one they became easier.  I am learning what recovery pace and speed pace works best and maintaining the speed throughout the workout which is what the goal is, right?  I hope so!

The next two weeks of training were leading up to Saturday races.  I ran a new one that I had not ever heard of - a cute guy told me about it and now I do not even speak to him..haha. O well, I am thankful for being turned on to the event.  He didn't even show up either!  The race was August 24th and call the New River Gorge-ous Trail run.  I did the long course, 13.1 miles (or supposed - I am still skeptical.)  That weekend I had intentionally intended on heading up to that area for a yoga retreat anyway and so when I heard about this even I thought, "wow, what a wonderful weekend that would be. Yoga, running, and more yoga!"  On top of that, the venue putting on the race offers FREE CAMPING to the runners, which is what made the race such an incredible experience.  I drove up and camped for two nights on my own, but was never alone.  I made so many new running buddies there - I really like seriously can not wait to do it again!  It is a new one on the MUST DO list!  But, needless to say.. I showed up at the yoga retreat Friday evening ready to pretzel it up and ended up being an  incredible 2-3 hour power yoga session which engaged your backside the entire time starting with your big toe and arches moving up your calves, hams, back and neck.  The revolutionary practice and poses, called The Roots, were developed to really get you thinking about your body's muscle imbalance and correcting that for proper body alignment and therefore more overall strength and wellness.  It was seriously amazing.  I felt it though - shew!  the next day on the run.  I took it easy that week doing only 3 runs on the treadmill (for which I now need to get a footpod for my Garmin to keep track of indoor mileage...not a HUGE priority but would be nice for blogging purposes.)  I ended up placing 4th overall female for the long course, but got won a $50 cash award since the third overall female actually worked for the company hosting the race.  Being a college student, I saw this as a gift from above to cover the gas it took to get up there.

This past week I did not do one run.  Saturday, August 31, I ran the Charleston Distance Run and after the intense yoga on Friday and Sunday with a race wedged in on Saturday, I figured my legs needed a break.  Afterall, is it worth running a race if you are not going to at least race yourself?  That is why I love it.  And, having run the distance run last year, I had a goal in mind - I wanted to beat last years time.  And, so.. I did.  Last year results (149th overall 2:07:56) - this year results (123rd overall 2:05:30).

Maps of training runs week of August 12-18 and race maps August 24 & 31.  I'll be back at it starting tomorrow and hopefully with weekly blog posts, but the next post will be most likely 3 weeks away as I am currently studying for a BIG EXAM coming up on September 11. Wish me luck - I need it!

Tuesday, August 13 - track night

I just remember Wednesday and Thursday of this week was incredibly busy preparing for a training that had Thursday - Saturday that took place in Ripley - as you can see from the next map.

Friday, August 16 - a little speed workout and a little just jogging.  I remember my legs were pretty tired as I did not fuel that morning and should NOT have been doing speed intervals and focused on a slow steady fat - burning pace.

Saturday, August 17 - back home on my trails in the park

Tues-Thursday, August 20-22, I ran on the treadmill, low mileage, 9 minute mile pace or thereabouts.

Saturday, August 24 - Gorge-ous Trail Run - apparentlly, my gps is not the only one that fell short of 13.1 miles.  I asked around and was told that they had used some gps app that measured the line distance in inclines and not just a flat change in distance viewed looking directly down from space.  I dunno - sounds interesting but that would mean we are covering much more mileage than gps watches are recording everytime we are running hills.  Who knows - I will research it when I have time.

Masochist Training Week 4

This week was an easy week of training to rest from last week's leg pumping, hill climbing, endurance week of training.  I left you on Sunday with my 30 mile run on the trails.  This week was the down week of training.  However, I woke up on Monday and had no soreness whatsoever.  I attribute this to my plant-based diet which consists of superfoods, particularly chlorella.  It seems to do wonders when it comes to recovery time.  When I have especially hard workouts I increase my intake and it has even helped bruising clear up quickly from falls on the trails.  I highly recommend trying it out.  I reviewed my training schedule Monday morning to see what was in store for me this week when I realized I was 4 weeks ahead on mileage.  This it made me happy - I realized I could focus more on some weight training and speed work in the upcoming weeks.  And so, I ended up working out with weights on Monday, a full body workout, focusing in on ragging out my legs to exhaustion.

I was up against Mother Nature this week and almost let her keep me indoors until the thought crossed my mind that she will not be so kind on race day as to let me choose the weather in which I run and so, I pulled myself up and out the door and onto the trails into the high humidity and in the down-pouring rain (YUCK.)

So here's how my week went this week:

Tuesday, August 6 - training schedule called for 5-8 miles including 3 X 1 mile tempos - what I did: track workout.  Right now my track workout starts with a 1 mile warm-up and then I do cycle of 2 minute increasing/decreasing intervals (meaning the speed interval increases as the recovery time decreases.)  It starts with 10s between a 6.5-8.5 min/mile pace with 1:50 recovery, then 20s fast pace with 1:40 recovery, then 30s fast pace with 1:30 recovery, and so on until you are running 1:50 fast with 10s recovery and then finish with 2:00 fast.. I have this workout programmed into my watch so I can do as many repeats as I wish.  Remind you that speed work on the track is VERY NEW to me and still quite uncomfortable.  It was a struggle to push myself through 2 of these workouts consecutively.  This workout I jogged at a very slow pace for 5 minutes before I started the 2nd workout.  I finished - it was hard for me but I did it.  I went home and adjusted my workout in my watch so that the goal speed for fast was fixed and that I could recover at whatever pace I felt I needed to go at inbetween fast paced run spurts.

Wednesday, August 7 - per training schedule I was supposed to run an easy 5 miles.  This is the morning I meet the new girls I am introducing to running trails.  After the distance I covered on Sunday, weights I worked out with on Monday, and speed I did on Tuesday, I only did the 5K trail loop once with them.  It was very much a leisurely enjoyable morning with the girls!

Thursday, August 8 - I forgot to mention that Tuesday was also a big day for me because up until this week I had only been doing track workouts on Thursdays (and only for 2 or 3 weeks at that.)  And so, getting in two speed workouts this week was a BIG DEAL for me as well.  I did the same workout that I did on Tuesday with the minor adjustments I mentioned beforehand.  The first workout was a struggle and the second bout was easier.  There was  moment I found my cadence, my stride, my breathing - it all fell together and the speedwork became a smidget easier!  There is hope for me yet!  Although my pace was slower on this workout, I felt better about the speed I was running - I felt more in control of what I was doing and my recovery periods were definitely slower making the speed easier.  Also, I doubled my recovery time between workouts which I am sure also affected overall pace.  AND... it was VERY HUMID out!  I thought I was going to die!

Saturday, August 10 - per training schedule I was supposed to do a 1.5 hour run, but due to my schedule on Saturday I only ran 1:16:38 (close enough - I ran out 40 minutes turned around and took the loop back down.   It was raining when I woke up and almost didn't go on this run - that is why I ran out of time.  I wasted time at home trying to talk myself out of running.  I had to work that morning anyway and so I decided to get there and at least run on the treadmill.  No excuses right? and, then on my way I told myself that I need to train in all weather - since who knows what Mother Nature will bring November 2.   It rained and I got soaked.  YUCK!  Waterproof shoes make no difference in a downpour.

Sunday, August 11 - per training schedule 2 hour run.  I got a late start on this run since I decided to sleep in Sunday.  I wanted to take my dog on this run since it was an easier one and I needed to wait for it to cool down a little.   It rained AGAIN!  :(

Today was a rest day - I rested completely!  Tomorrow's training is supposed to start with a 9 mile run with 6X1 miles at tempo pace.  I haven't decided what I want to do tomorrow.  I will try and get the 9 in.  Most likely on the track, but I have hill sprints in the back of my mind too.  Like I said, my training schedule is an outline.  School starts for me in a week and I begin a new job on Thursday this week.  I imagine I will have to become more and more flexible and creative with my training as my schedule will be busier.  Worst case, I will begin to split my workouts up throughout the day with more treadmill work.

All I can say is I do not know what I would do without my training - it makes everything in life a little easier.  I eat better, sleep better, retain information in class with less study time, and in the end, I feel better.

Masochist Training Week 3

Sunday to Sunday training has gone well.  Last Sunday I decided to run on the road.  I felt my training had been lacking in mileage due to the slower pace on the trails..& could also use the boost in pace one gets on the road.  The rest of the week was kind of a lazy running week where I didn't get the workouts or mileage in that I had intended.  However, I made up for it today running 50k on the trails and finishing in just under 7 hours.

Sunday, July 28th - Road Run, 20.0 miles, CO119 - I parked at the bank in the Walmart shopping center in Logan, WV - and ran towards Chapmanville, WV.  I picked this route because it started and finished with 6 miles of steep hills.  I ran out 10 miles with negative splits in mind.  I managed to keep them that way until I began my 2 mile hill climb just after mile 14 (10 out & 4 back) in which the hills only got steeper over the last six miles.

Tuesday, July 30th - Trail Run, 8.7 miles, Hatfield & McCoy Trail System, Logan, WV - this run actually opened up onto the Hatfield & McCoy trail system.  I imagine I will get more familiar with these trails as they go forever with endless options.  I just need to be careful to pay attention to the trail numbers and the sequence I enter/exit them!  I almost missed an appointment because I almost went the wrong way on my way back.  There were two trails that forked together - only I didn't notice on my way out...On my way back - I was doubtful on which way to go.  Thank goodness for Map My Run's viewable map of route this time.  I headed up the wrong way but looked at my map and turned around.

Wednesday, July 31st - Trail Run, 3 miles, Chief Logan Recreational Trail loop - this was a short run.  My training schedule called for a light 5 miles, but I didn't have time.  I am making Wednesday mornings a group run for beginning trail runners - one showed up last week, 2 the week before, and 2 the week before that.  I am hoping to have 3 or more this week!

Thursday, August 1st - Track night, LHS, Logan, WV - short track workout.  These past few weeks have been my first workouts on the track & I must say they are uncomfortable for me.  Plus, I have been working on getting the kinks worked out on my workouts programmed in my Garmin as well as learning exactly what I am capable of to get the most out of these nights.  I only ran one workout - but, I have created a new one starting with my slow run intervals at 10 seconds with 1:50 in recovery, and then 20 seconds slow run with 1:40 recovery.. and so on...  I input it into my Garmin now to have 3 repeats with 10 minutes recovery between each workout.  Hoping this will go better.  To run faster, you have to run faster - right?  ugh

(MY GARMIN BUGGED OUT ON ME AND CORRUPTED THIS FILE - realized that was the issue when my workouts wouldn't connect today, after reading a few blogs on the issue)  Sorry for no workout on this one.  I ran 3.57 miles in 34 minutes - that included a 1 mile warmup.

Saturday, August 3rd - planned on running the course for the August 24 race in Minden.  Also decided to make that a working play day to drop off information and fliers on the fundraiser 5K I am doing.  Well, I ran short on time and when I got to the place where the race is going to be, no one could help me match my course map with their actual trails :(   so no run Saturday

Sunday, August 4th - make up training day - 50k, Chief Logan State Park Trail system, Logan WV - my Garmin died just short of completing the 50k, but almost made it.  This is the longest trail run I have logged on my Garmin.  I ran Frozen Sasquatch 50K but we know what happened up there.  I was well pleased to complete this run and still have energy today!  I CAN RUN MASOCHIST and proved it to myself today!

All in all training is looking good.   I am happy with how I am doing.  I think maybe a goal finish time of 10:30:00 may be a little ambitious at this point, but we will see.  I will have my good friend, Alan, look over my training and tell me what he thinks I can do it in if I keep with it as planned.  He usually can guess my time pretty closely (although - I have shocked him by being faster on occasion :)

Masochist Training Logs Start Now

Sooo... It has been a while since my last post. Since my Portland trip, I signed up for 2 key races with an ultimate end goal of running Mount Masochist Trail Run (MMTR), November 2nd. Two years ago I ran the last half of this race (whose course has since changed) as a pacer.  This race is a grueling 53-54 miles that are quite unforgiving.

Everything I have read says "PICK a FLAT course" for your first 50 miler. Not me though...noooo... not this chic. That would be playing it safe and "HEY...WHAT runner plays it safe who runs ultra anyway??? I am under the impression we are all a little crazy!"

I ran the Hatfield and McCoy marathon - & finished 3rd in my age. I chose this one because it was 12 weeks out from when I decided to run Masochist and it's in my home state with a challenging hilly course for a road run!   I had 12 weeks to train, time to recover, & then start training for Masochist. My marathon training once again started off really great and fell off somewhere along the way to race day just like my first marathon.

So... here I am committed to running a 50+ mile race which I fell in love with two years ago... BUT I know there is no falling off the training wagon here.. NOPE, NOT HAPPENING!!! AND, that is what brings me back to my blog. I will blog about my training all the way up to race day starting today in an effort to keep me true to training. Tomorrow, I finish up week 2 of my Masochist training - I haven't decided on whether I will run on the road or 3 or 4 hours on the trail. A skeleton of a training plan in hand with room for LOTS of flexibility my first two weeks of training look like this:

Masochist Training.Week 1 Day 1

Masochist Training.Week 1 Day 2

Masochist Training.Week 1 Day 3
 Masochist Training.Week 1 Day 3 - Track work

Masochist Training.Week 1 Day 4
Masochist Week 1 Day 5

Masochist Week 2 Day 1

Masochist Week 2 Day 2

Masochist Week 2 Day 3

Masochist Week 2 Day 3, Track work interrupted - better luck next week!

Masochist Week 2 Day 4

I intend on including road runs, long and short intervals, and hill sprints while also training for the long runs.  I have done a lot of research over the past year in preparation and will include early morning slow runs in an effort to shift my body to burn body fat for fuel.  I am hoping for a finish at Masochist sub 10:30:00 - as of now... As my training progresses, I may have a new time goal.

Portland Jogging Art Tour

I recently made a trip up to Portland, OR to visit a school I am looking at making application to.  Being a poor college, I had $60 to cover everything for the entire 4 days I was there. Of course I wanted to see as much of the city I could while I was there.  So, I researched everything free to do in the city before I left for my trip.

I came across a brochure online showing a map with all of the pieces a public art in the city.  I came up with the idea of doing a sort of terrain association game where I would run around the city looking for all the spots on the map where piece of art could be located. This ended up being a terrific idea.  I took the map out and looked at it before I left my room, got a quick idea of the direction I was going to head in, and took off.  As you can tell from the map of my run, I got a little lost at first, ran around in circles for a bit, but in the end I realize there was so much art in the city that I the map was not needed.  All I needed to do was keep my head up and eyes open!

Here are some of the pictures that I took along the way. This ended up being the funnest part of my trip. I definitely foresee more of these runs in other cities I visit!

....and, I uploaded my pics in the order I snapped them but had to upload them from my Blogger mobile app and they didn't upload in order :/  Hopefully, I will find the time to reorder them... but, anyhoo.. enjoy!

FREE TOURS - didn't quite have time to make it back for one though.

Headed Out the Door!
Public  Fountains!  Constructed in memory of Philanthropist Simon Benson.
Portland!
Honest Abe...& me.
Yet another fountain (or, er, a picture of the fountain that was hidden behind the vegetable stand)
Just thought this was nice!
I was happy to see that at least one of the Farmer's Markets stays open for the winter.
Portland was one of the friendliest cities I have ever visited!!!
Even strangers spoke to each other on the bus.
A piece of a building that was left, I believe..
Jamison Square is where this red sculpture below was found.

Theodore Roosevelt, Rough Rider
Coming of the White Man, in Washington Park (ran here the day after art jogging tour)
Asked someone sitting close by - this is a fountain when it is not freezing out!
Rock located at the Chinese Gardens
Chinatown
The first piece I located after running around in a few circles.
I actually uploaded a pic of this without me bombing it, but it did not upload :(
This was another favorite piece of mine - sorry you can not see it!
You can see it HERE though
Street Entrance to Chinese Gardens
Chinatown
HUGE piece - but not quite sure of it's name.  : ?
Another favorite - and behind it, there is some construction going on that I believe will incorporate MORE ART! :)
Just some really pretty graffiti
Multinoma County Library - had an amazing collection of popup art books!
I took many pictures to show my students for the summer reading program I work at!
Very cool idea!  I loved this!  Wish I had my nephew with me to play.

I thought the city was full of culture!

This a fountain during warmer season!   Drained for winter :(

By the Water at the start of my run....hmmm..pics uploaded completed out of order!

These are located all over the city..  apparently food is good here.. I even saw a vegan truck... but I was limited to purchasing my own groceries and eating in!  Next time...

Ok... I was particularly excited when I came across this one.
This was not an art piece listed on the brochure.
I lucked into finding this one - can any of my running buddies guess who this is???
